Hockey: Harper pleased with big win up north

GRANGE player-coach Craig Harper today urged his men to maintain their focus ahead of Saturday's Division One clash at third-placed Menzieshill.

The Stockbridge side opened up a three-point gap at the top of Division One with a 5-0 road win at bottom club Aberdeen.

The Edinburgh side also extended their unbeaten run to seven games. Harper said: "It was a pleasing result and we should have scored more."

Harper opened the scoring from a penalty corner and Martin Kelly made it 2-0 from a scrambled effort.

Cammy Fraser extended their lead before Euan Milne and Duncan Riddle both scored their first goals for the club.

Grange's nearest challengers, Clydesdale, were held 1-1 at home by Edinburgh University while third-placed Western were beaten 3-1 at Hillhead.

Meanwhile, champions Kelburne opened their defence of the Division One title with a 9-0 thrashing of Inverleith.

In Division Two, pace-setters CALA Edinburgh beat second-placed Watsonians 4-1 thanks to a double from David Guy.

Fraser Sands and Scott Sutherland also netted.

David Sweetman was on the score sheet for Watsonians.
