Hockey: Germans to defend cup in Capital

from Hamburg, Germany 
will defend the Richard Docherty Cup in Edinburgh from Friday, January 4 to Sunday, January 6.

The Player of the Tournament last season, Philip Witte, who won an Olympic gold medal in Beijing in 2008, should again be in their line-up, alongside former Great Britain goalkeeper Jimi Lewis, who was in the British Olympic hockey squad in 2004.

Grove Menzieshill, the most decorated side indoors in Scotland in the last decade, and Inverleith, who won the 
domestic indoor title in 2011 and a bronze medal in the 
EuroHockey Trophy last year, will spearhead the Scottish challenge.

Two guest teams will also 
take part in the tournament. Team ALBA is led by former Scottish international and Western goalkeeper Kris Kane and Globetrotters is headed by Scottish international John Harris and his Inverleith 
colleague, Phil Hall.

The event has added a women’s competition with three Edinburgh clubs involved – Inverleith, CALA Edinburgh and Grange.
