Hockey: Dick returns to score six for Inverleith

OLYMPIAN Stephen Dick promised to play for Inverleith in their quest for the indoor hockey league title and the Fife-born star returned home to help steer the Capital club to the top of the Division One.

Dick, now playing for leading English side Reading in a bid to stake a claim for Olympic selection in 2012, scored six goals.

The ambitious Edinburgh team, which lost to Menzieshill in the title race last season, won all three games in the opening round of fixtures at Perth on Saturday, firing 27 goals and losing 13 as evergreen goalkeeper Graham Stuart put up the shutters.

They opened with a 10-4 win over Western and then edged Edinburgh rivals Grange 6-3 with a Dick treble before completing a perfect start with an 11-6 win over Kelburne, the outdoor champions, with Dick netting another hat-trick.

Menzieshill, looking for their eighth straight indoor league title, demolished Hillhead 13-1, with Kenny Stibbles netting four, and followed up with a 6-3 victory over another Glasgow-based side, Clydesdale.
