Hockey: Americans invited to Dundee event

The American national squad and Scotland Under-21s will guest at the Grove Menzieshill Invitational Indoor Tournament at Dundee International Sports Centre on 29 and 30 December.

The Americans are in Scotland as part of their preparation for the Indoor World Cup in Poznan in February and have divided their squad into two sides, Team USA and the American Eagles. As winners of the Pan American Indoor Games in the summer, the Americans automatically qualified for Poznan, and will play Austria, Russia, Czech Republic, England and Iran in their pool.

The Menzieshill tournament will also form part of the build-up programme for the Scotland Under-21 side as they prepare for the European Nations Championships in Prague, where Austria, Switzerland and Czech Republic are the opposition.

Hosts Menzieshill, chasing an eighth consecutive Scottish title and themselves preparing for the European Club Championships in Lucerne in February, are the fourth side in the event.

The equivalent women's competition features Grove Menzieshill, VWS Dundee, Milne Craig Western and the Scotland Under-21 women's side.
