Hibee history: Rae comes to the four

THE Hibs fans enjoyed plenty of attacking football from their side in this game, which was never in doubt after the Easter Road side overcame early offside tactics by the Steelmen to take the lead in the 25th minute.

Although bottom of the league, Motherwell had taken three points from their previous two games against Rangers and Aberdeen.

But Hibs never gave them a chance in racking up their biggest league win of the season.

Gordon Rae, Ralph Callachan, Des Bremner and Colin Campbell were on the scoresheet for the Hibees but it was a player who didn't score who captured the imagination of the fans.

Steve Brown, playing up front at just 17, had half-a-dozen efforts on goal as he tried to break his league scoring duck.

And there was a huge groan from the terraces when his best try cannoned back off a post.

Arthur Duncan at left back and Ally Brazil on the right were the pick of the Hibs team, with Ally MacLeod dominating midfield.

They all outshone Motherwell's 200,000 man Gregor Stevens, who found it hard to shine in a struggling side.
