Heriot's hope to cash in on their home comforts

Heriot's begin a run of matches that will not see them playing outside of the Capital throughout the whole of July when they welcome Stoneywood-Dyce to Goldenacre in the SNCL Premiership tomorrow.

And all of the local clubs in the Premiership and Championship will be hoping for better luck than last month which saw the majority of matches on June 11 and 18 rained off and then the low-key T20 Festivals being played last weekend.

Heriot's currently sit fourth in the table and will be at full-strength tomorrow. With that in mind, captain Steve Knox wants his charges to kick on from a good first couple of months back in the top flight.

He said: "We did a lot of travelling in the first few weeks and after a slow start the guys have started playing pretty well together. We have some big matches coming up and we want to get on another good run after the recent bad weather saw the season stutter a bit.

"We knew after promotion last year that we would have to reshape our team slightly because we were losing the likes of Matthew Thomas and Anthony Edington and the guys that have come in such as Keith Morton have fitted in well, while having Adam Lockhart-Krause back as pro and Simon Smith in our line-up has helped."

Knox has also been pleased by the contribution of Craig MacKellar with the former Penicuik seamer now a big part of the Heriot's attack along with Sean Weeraratna, Andre van Niekirk, Atif Hussain and Morton.

"It has taken time for Craig to re-adjust to top level cricket after a few years away from it, but he is coming on to a game and is a good weapon for us."

Leaders Carlton look set to be without key batsman Preston Mommsen for the trip to Uddingston after he broke a finger on Scotland duty. Gordon Drummond and Fraser Watts are available after starring for the national side though.

Grange, in sixth, head to West of Scotland with teenage batsmen Henry Edwards having been in good form for the National Academy this week.

Watsonians will have an early start tomorrow as they head to Aberdeenshire at the start of a big weekend for them. On Sunday they then welcome Ayr to Myreside in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup and for the double header James Easton returns having scored an unbeaten half century in the second XI last week. The team named for Sunday sees one change from tomorrow's league team with Pete Legget replacing Andy Learmonth.

In the Championship tomorrow Edinburgh Accies host Poloc, RH Corstorphine are on the road to Renfrew and SMRH welcome East Kilbride to Inverleith. West Lothian face a trip to Stenhousemuir.

And in the East Leagues the big match is in the top flight where leaders Fauldhouse welcome second place Watsonians II to West Lothian. Both sides are coming off good victories over Glenrothes and Boroughmuir respectively
