Henderson’s Olympic feats can spur skiers

SKIING: Paul Henderson (Stewart’s Melville College), who skied for Scotland at the Winter Youth Olympics in Austria in January, is one of 20 Scots taking part in this week’s World Schools’ Championships at Gressoney in Italy’s Aosta Valley.

Henderson finished a very creditable 17th out of 41 competitors at the Youth Olympics and his experience will boost the Scottish team.

Under head coach Ronnie Naismith the majority of the team came through the FAST programme – Focused Alpine Scottish ski Training – which provides a pathway for top children racers before they become Juniors at 16.

The team event features one of the strongest-ever Scottish line-ups. All five of the 14-and-under boys are in the British squad. Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh has four representatives.
