Hearts to use Templeton in Driver's role

HEARTS manager Jim Jefferies is preparing to unleash winger David Templeton for the final four matches of the SPL campaign in an attempt to compensate for losing Andy Driver to injury.

The 21-year-old played the final eight minutes of yesterday's defeat at Ibrox as a substitute but, with three of Hearts' final four fixtures at Tynecastle, Jefferies will utilise the opportunity to deploy him from the start.

Driver's torn thigh muscle, sustained against Kilmarnock earlier this month, creates a chasm for a creative influence in wide areas and Templeton is favourite to capitalise on the Englishman's misfortune.

"We want to do well in these remaining games so it's about getting the balance right between trying to win the matches and having a look at one or two players," explained Jefferies.

"I will definitely look to try and give Templeton a run in the games between now and the end of the season. I'm not saying he'll play in them all but he will certainly be involved and take part in most of them.

"As for starting, if the timing is right he will get the chance just like one or two others.

"Templeton is younger than Driver and a lot less experienced. We know all about his ability and talent but he still lacks a bit of experience.

"We will work to develop him as he gets older but he's certainly got the talent and the skill factor required.

"We see him as one for the future and we want to let him taste the first team more to benefit for the years ahead."

Hearts face a potentially pivotal forthcoming weekend for their European aspirations. Whilst they entertain Europa League rivals Motherwell at Tynecastle on Saturday, city rivals Hibernian host Rangers at Easter Road on Sunday.
