Hearts: Final Answer

Should Hearts pull out the stops to keep Michael Stewart at the club?

Michael Nicolson, Newington: "I don't think Mikey is so important to the team that we should pull out all the stops to keep him but he'd be useful to have around. I'd offer him a new deal on reduced terms and see what happens."

Peter Lang, Morningside: "The team has performed better in the last few weeks when he has been out of the team. I'm not really bothered whether he stays or goes as he wouldn't be in my first choice XI anyway."

Iain Milne, Sighthill: "I'd definitely like to see Michael Stewart stay on. I know we're looking to build the team around young players next season but you need experienced heads to bring them on, too, and Stewart has plenty of experience."

Neil Whitehead, Gorgie: "I would let Stewart go in the summer. On his day, he's a really good midfielder but he has let us down too often for me."

John Cameron, Straiton: "It would all depend on his salary. He's not good value for money for what he's probably earning at the moment. If he was to sign on a reduced contract then I'd give him one more year."

Claire Barnes, Gilmerton: "The club will need to balance the books and, if it is a decision between keeping Michael Stewart or Larry Kingston, I think that Stewart would be a much better signing. He gives his all every time he plays and is far less injury prone."

Tony Ritchie, Loanhead: "I would like to see Michael Stewart stay. We will probably be losing a lot of experienced players but you can't let them all go. I would take the captaincy off him, though, as I don't think that he handles the responsibility well."

Andy Smith, Chesser: "I like Stewart and I think he's very underrated by Hearts fans. I hope that he stays because I think, like Robbie Neilson, it'll be a case of people not realising how important he is to the team until he is gone."

Alan Cairns, Gilmerton: "I don't think he is a top priority in terms of players that I'd like to keep. If we can afford it, I'd like to see him stay but not at the expense of new players being brought in or if it'd mean we'd need to sell Driver or Wallace."

Graeme Heaton, Danderhall: "I would keep him but only if he is prepared to sign a new contract on reduced terms. He's a good player but we really need to bring the wage bill down to a much more affordable level."
