Hawick 8 - 23: Hawks’ blitz puts game past rudderless Hawick

GLASGOW Hawks coach, Peter Wright, took his players home with a new confidence after an inspiring win which, nevertheless, saw them remain in the bottom four of Prem 1.

Wright said: “It is never easy to win here, but our defence was good to keep them out and we are happy with the result.”

Not so for Hawick, who have failed to win a game in the first half of the season and are still looking for a coach to replace Derek Armstrong.

Hawick got off to the best possible start with a Gary Johnstone penalty, but by half-time they trailed the visitors by 3-20. Mike Martin banged over two penalties and converted tries from George Hunter, who was driven over, and Ross Miller, who had space on the right.

John Coutts restored hope for the Greens, only for Peter Jericevich to put the result beyond doubt seven minutes from the end.
