Hanagan busy at Hamilton but in-form Klynch is one to watch

CHAMPION jockey Paul Hanagan is scheduled to ride in all seven races at Hamilton today.

The feature race of the 33,000 card is the 12,000 Irish EBF Captain JCStewart Fillies' Handicap, which sees Hanagan aboard Richard Fahey's She's A Character.

Hanagan partners Berbice in the Garry Owen Handicap but they face stiff competition in the shape of Klynch, a horse that travels north in red-hot form.

The five-year-old kicked off his winning streak at Hamilton in early May and he has defied his subsequent rises in the handicaps to win again at Carlisle and Newcastle.

Klynch must shoulder an extra 12lb this time but he landed a competitive Newcastle heat in good style last week and is obviously not finished yet. Hopefully The Scotsman nap is not an added burden for the horse.

In addition to the on-course action, Scottish firms will hear all about the business of breeding at Hamilton today.

With the feature race of the track's Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce Raceday sponsored by the Irish Stallion Farms, the underlying theme to the afternoon fixture is the breeding of the racehorse.

Special guest Daithi Harvey, of Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, will tell race-goers more about the breeding industry in Ireland.

Punters will be hoping he'll maybe provide them with some pointers about the pedigrees of horses running at the Lanarkshire track.

Hazel Peplinski, Clerk of the Course, said: "There are some interesting visitors amongst the Horsemen for this card as we welcome long distance travellers such as Andrew Balding, Sir Mark Prescott, John Hills, Seb Sanders and Jimmy Fortune.

"Also, this our first meeting of the year where we welcome back the current champion jockey Paul Hanagan, who once again has a healthy lead in the 2011 jockeys' championship table."

Elsewhere, Great Acclaim can continue on the upward curve as he lines up in the Kathe Kaye Memorial Handicap at Sandown.

James Fanshawe's charge lost his maiden tag when making a triumphant seasonal bow at Leicester in April, notching a two-length verdict despite looking pretty green in front.

He wandered around a bit and pricked his ears but still managed to confirm the promise of his sole juvenile start in hanging on for victory.

Great Acclaim switches to handicap company and has been awarded an opening mark of 78, which looks perfectly workable.

He sticks to his winning trip of seven furlongs and can make the best possible start in the handicap sphere today.
