Some of the home countries teams also have several Olympian competitors who competed for Great Britain in the 2000 Olympics and the World and European Championships from 1995 through to 2002.

There may also be an appearance from the 1996 and 2000 Olumpian and British Champion Annika Reeder, also the 1994 and 1998 Commonwealth Games gold silver and bronze medallist.

Confirmed teams for the 2002 Classique will come from Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Monaco, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Norway and Switzerland.

There will also be several special guest gymnasts giving a display performance after the main team event on Saturday, the oldest performer gymnast being 73 years old.

This prestigious event, the only one of its kind in Scotland and one of only two in Great Britain, has become much sought after for an invitation from many countries round the world.

Competition co-director Margaret Brady-Scollon said: "This year's event promises a weekend of top-class gymnastics with some of the best teams in the world coming to Cumbernauld to compete. It is a rare opportunity for people in Scotland to come and see top sportswomen compete right on their doorstep.

"We are delighted that Cumbernauld's gymnastics event is now a firm fixture in the diary of gymnastics clubs and countries worldwide."
