Gregg Wylde would like David Goodwillie signing

Gregg Wylde would welcome the addition of Dundee United striker David Goodwillie to the Rangers squad for next season.

The Ibrox club have targeted the 22-year-old Tannadice striker although they have baulked at the 2million asking price and it yesterday emerged that Cardiff City are also ready to swoop.

New Rangers manager Ally McCoist has yet to make a new signing since taking over from Walter Smith but, speaking at the launch of the club's new away kit at Murray Park, Wylde claimed Goodwillie would be a good first addition.

"It would be good to see Goodwillie come to help the squad and score goals," the 20-year-old midfielder said. "What he did at Dundee United last season was brilliant so hopefully, if he does come here, he can carry it on.

"If the manager brings in signings to change the squad and make it stronger, we have to work hard and hopefully he will pick us. I would like to play more games than I did last season but to finish with two medals, I can't complain."

Midfielder Kyle Hutton is heartened by the fact that, so far, the club have managed to keep their big stars, including goalkeeper Allan McGregor who has been linked with Aston Villa, although Rangers' new owner Craig Whyte has said the Scotland No 1 is not for sale.

"Competition is good for a club," 20-year-old Hutton said. "If new signings come in, we will just have to deal with it. It's part and parcel of football so all you can do is keep doing your best and hopefully catch the gaffer's eye.

"It is a bonus (that the squad is intact]. If you are comfortable with your team-mates it can only be a good thing. If we can keep a hold of (McGregor] that will be a big plus."
