Green for go as City eye Hibs clash

HIBS should know their Active Nation Scottish Cup fifth-round opponents later tonight when Edinburgh City meet Montrose at Meadowbank Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm) in their fourth-round tie.

Meadowbank passed an early-morning inspection and East of Scotland League side City are geared up for their biggest test of the season so far.

Manager Shaun Steven watched Montrose in their Third Division game at home to Stranraer on Saturday, a result which saw Montrose lose 5-4 despite being 4-2 ahead with less than 15 minutes remaining.

"I am hoping the result will have dented their confidence a bit," said Steven. "Having said that, Montrose played some nice football. They passed the ball well and they kept possession.

"Steven Tweed, their player-manager, did not play so he is keeping himself fresh to play against us. They also had a trialist at left back who won't be eligible while Paul Tosh – who scored two of their four goals – has already played for Cove Rangers in the Scottish Cup so also can't play."

While Steven was at Montrose, his team were beaten 1-0 by Vale of Leithen in a friendly on the 3G surface at Spartans Soccer Academy. The match allowed Kenny Ross, Jamie Bain and Ross Guthrie game time as they recover from injuries.

Scott McFarland, the former Edinburgh University midfield player, is likely to make his Scottish Cup debut for City tonight.

Hibs supporters are sure to be interested in their next opponents and a larger than normal crowd is expected at Meadowbank Stadium. Spectators are urged to arrive early to avoid potential queues for the game which kicks off at 7.45pm. Admission is 10 for adults and 5 for concessions while accompanied children aged under 16 will get free entry.
