Tom Higson maintained his hot run of form by setting the course record at the new Dumbarnie Links then matching it 24 hours later.

His blistering back-to-back eight-under-par 64s at the Fife venue came in the Travelling The Fairways Pro-Am on the Tartan Tour.

Higson, who is attached to Gleneagles, finished six shots clear of the field as he picked up a £1600 top prize.

The success came in the middle of him winning the first Get Back to Golf Tour event at Crail outright then sharing top spot in the second one at Murrayshall.

Higson birdied the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 8th and 9th to be out in 31 in his opening round over the Clive Clark-designed Dumbarnie Links, which opened when Scottish courses came out of lockdown at the end of May.

He then birdied the 11th, 13th and 17th coming in to complete a great day's work before keeping his foot to the board in the second round.

That effort was ignited by an eagle-3 at the second, which was followed by birdies at the 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 15th and 17th before dropping his only shot over two days at the last.

Even Paul O'Hara, the Tartan Tour's leading light in recent seasons, was left trailing in his wake as he finished second on 10-under after rounds of 70-64.

Higson also shot 64 over the Craighead Links at Crail to win the inaugural event on Alan Tait's Get Back to Golf Tour by three shots.

With close to 100 players in the field again for the second one at Murrayshall, Higson carded a seven-under 64 to share the spoils with Jamie McLeary.

“Another great success with 96 players in the field following on from the 93 who took part at Crail," said Tait.

"It was also great to see some of the EuroPro Tour lads taking part who have had virtually nothing to play in all year.

"Murrayshall was in fantastic condition, especially after the horrendous storm that hit Scotland halfway through the week."

The third event on the circuit is now underway at Montrose Links and McLeary said: “I think the tour is a great initiative to get some competitive golf for a bunch of guys who wouldn’t have got an opportunity to play any competitive golf this season.

"Being able to play a round of golf with your mates on some of the best courses in the country for much less than the green fee is a great incentive for the amateur players.

"The fact that it’s spread out over a period of 10 days allows you to work it into your schedule so much easier than it being only one day."
