Revamped European Tour schedule to be unveiled by Keith Pelley

The Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open looks set to be handed an October slot in a revamped European Tour schedule.

The tour’s chief executive, Keith Pelley, is holding a teleconference at noon today, when he is expected to reveal his plans for the circuit’s restart.

In a report last week, it was said the tour, which has been in lockdown since early March, would be resuming with the Betfred British Masters at Close House, near Newcastle.

That is due to take place at the Northumberland venue from 30 July to 2 August with Lee Westwood as host.

It was also claimed it would be followed by four one-off tournaments at British courses with hotels on site, with Celtic Manor in Wales and Hanbury Manor and Forest of Arden in England mentioned as possible venues.

The Scotsman understands the ASI Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club, which had been due to take place in July before being postponed, will be part of a second UK swing in October.

That is also likely to include the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and, possibly, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

It remains to be seen what the tour is planning in terms of spectators attending any of the UK events.
