GOLF: Merchiston Golf Academy’s decision to have regular coaching from Alan Murdoch at King’s Acre is paying hefty dividends.

The most recent success came at Haddington Golf Club when the under-13 team – Jamie Boyd, Kayal Sui and Rory Thain – won the Loretto Junior Golf Championship and took home home the prestigious Simmers Cup.

Over 100 youngsters (boys and girls) from schools all over Scotland took part.

Murdoch, Kings Acres’ director of golf, said: “It was a great day to see our youngsters being presented with the cup by Mr Simmers himself. It goes to show what we are doing with golf is working, right through the whole school.”

Rory (12) had a gross score of 86, winning the individual net stableford competition with 44 points.
