PGA Tour: Leonard in hunt for Tampa Bay win

Justin Leonard put himself in contention for a first PGA Tour title in five years by claiming a share of the lead heading into the final round of Tampa Bay Championship.

The 1997 Open champion’s last success on the tour was at the St Jude Championship in 2008 but he started the last day at the Innisbrook Copperhead Course level on six-under-par with fellow American Kevin Streelman and South African George Coetzee.

Leonard’s third-round 67 was two fewer than Streelman, whose blemish-free 65 was the best of the day by two shots.

One shot behind the leading trio were a group of four players, made up of Americans Jim Furyk (67), Ben Kohles (69) and Tag Ridings (70), as well as Australian Greg Chalmers (69).

Defending champion Luke Donald was the leading European on four under after also recording a 67, leaving
him level with early tournament pacesetter Shawn Stefani, who suffered a day to forget as the PGA Tour rookie slumped to a 74.
