Paul Lawrie delighted by inaugural ladies tour

A COMBINATION of old and new will provide an interesting mix of courses for the inaugural Paul Lawrie Golf Centre Scottish Ladies Open Tour.

Designed to increase competitive opportunities for Scotland’s home-based women professionals, the circuit will consist of
14 events, which represents an excellent effort by co-organisers Nicola Melville and Colin Farquharson.

“It’s fantastic news,” said main sponsor Lawrie of the schedule, which starts at Dalmahoy next month and will stop off at the likes of Blairgowrie, Carnoustie, Craigielaw, Downfield and Trump Links International before returning to the Kirknewton venue for a season-ending Tour Championship in October. “Many thanks to everyone involved in allowing the lady professionals and up-and-coming amateur girls the chance to play on such high-profile courses.”

Laura Murray, last year’s Scottish Women’s champion, has admitted the new circuit will be invaluable in her rookie season in the paid ranks while others set to enter the events include Heather MacRae, former Curtis Cup player Heather Stirling and amateur Kelsey MacDonald.
