The Open: Ten Scots in running at Muirfield

SCOTLAND will have its biggest Open Championship representation for nearly a decade at Muirfield this week, with ten Scots in the field. It will be the first time since 2005 that the Scottish tally has reached double figures. Here are the ten and how they qualified:

Sandy Lyle, right: qualifies as a former champion (1985) aged 60 or under on 21 July

Paul Lawrie: like Lyle, a former champion (1999) who will be under 60 by the completion of this week’s championship

Richie Ramsay: takes his place at Muirfield by virtue of being in the top 30 of the 2012 Race to Dubai on the European Tour

Marc Warren: qualifies as one of the top five players not otherwise exempt from the top 20 in the Race to Dubai following last week’s French Open

Scott Jamieson: came through at International Final Qualifying (Europe) at Sunningdale last month

Martin Laird: qualifies as one of the eight highest-ranked non-exempt players in the world golf rankings published on 8 July

George Murray, right: secured his place earlier this month via Local Final Qualifying at North Berwick

Lloyd Saltman: the Archerfield golfer came through Local Final Qualifying at Musselburgh

Grant Forrest: the amateur from North Berwick booked his spot via Local Final Qualifying at Dunbar

Stephen Gallacher: initially named as first reserve after being pipped by compatriot Warren by just £754, Gallacher was given a reprieve when former winner John Daly withdrew
