Neil Raymond wins the St Andrews Links Trophy

CORHAMPTON’S Neil Raymond won the St Andrews Links Trophy by two shots with a six-under-par total of 282 yesterday.

It was his “Sunday best”, though, that won him the prestigious tournament.

Over the first 36 holes, Raymond was one over par with 72 over the Jubilee Course and 73 over the Old on Saturday.

But he was transformed from Clark Kent to Superman on a gloriously sunny day on the St Andrews Links over which he shot a four-under-par 68 in the morning third round and three-under 69 in the last circuit to head an England 1-2-3-4.

Nathan Kimsey (Woodhall Spa), Max Orrin (North Foreland) and long-time leader Ryan Evans (Wellingborough) tied for second place, two behind the winner on 284.

Top Scot was Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) in joint fifth place on three-under 285 with rounds of 71-76-67-71, his tough second round killing off hopes of a higher finish.
