Inbee Park beat defending champion Na Yeon Choi by two strokes to win the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia title yesterday.

Park finished with a four-under-par 67 to end on 15 under for the tournament and edge out her fellow South Korean Choi, who could only card a level-par 71 in her final round.

Park, the 2008 US Women’s Open champion, still trailed by two shots – her overnight deficit to leader Choi – after the front nine, but she turned things round with four birdies in five holes from the 10th.

She then survived a late scare when she dropped shots on the final two holes to take the tile, with Choi’s challenge all but disappearing when she double-bogeyed the par-three 17th.

“I was really nervous out there,” said Park, adding: “I’m very happy to win. I played for the second time here, and it’s the first time I’ve won twice in one year so I’m really proud of myself for that.”

Australia’s Karrie Webb was third on 12 under after carding a 68, while Scotland’s Catriona Matthew was fourth a further shot back after a 67.
