Live online service for Ryder Cup spectators

RYDER Cup spectators will now be able to access live on-demand interactive content while on the Gleaneagles course.

Wi-fi access has been made possible at the course thanks to an agreement with wireless network provider Xirrus.

This will enable tournament organisers to provide wi-fi to very large densities of mobile users. Today’s announcement means that fans will now be able to access on-demand video, interactive content, social media apps and location-based services.

Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup Director, said: “Wireless services bring huge advantages to the whole golfing experience, by providing spectators with faster and easier access to digital content.”

“We are going to take this performance to the next level and truly revolutionise the way we deliver digital content and engage with fans at the event.”

This mimics a similar program adopted at the PGA Championship in Wentword in last May, which provided fans with access to a raft of services such as on-demand video and digital content to improve their event day experience. It also completes the Wi-Fi strategy for Scotland’s Ryder Cup 2014 event, which aims to offer spectators online services fromthe start of their travel, right through onto the golf course itself.
