allan Kournikova, the younger brother of tennis player Anna, is on course to claim his age-group title for the second year running in the US Kids Golf European Championship in East Lothian.
Playing a shortened 1,800-yard course over nine holes at Longniddry, the American followed up his first-round 35 with a 32 to open up a five-shot lead in the eight-and-under boys’ event heading into the final day. He bounced back from an opening bogey with three birdies in four holes from the third before adding the coup de grace with an eagle-3 at the last.
Leading the chase are the two players Palm Beach-based Kournikova shared top spot with at the start of the day, fellow Americans Rafe Cochran and Jaivir Pande. Other eye-catching performances on the event’s second day came from Norwegian Fredrik Sejr, who shot a four-under 68 over Gullane No 2 to earn a share of the lead with Adrien Montarant in the boys’ under-10s event, and Iceland’s Fannar Ingi Steingrimsson with a five-under 67 in the under-14s at Luffness New.
Iceland are also in with a chance of winning the boys’ 15-18 title as Gisli Sveinbergsson shares the lead with Jim De Heij (Netherlands) on three-over.
