The 30-year-old Scot holed out with a wedge from 111 yards for an eagle at the par-5 seventh in her second round at Real Club De Golf Guadalmina just before the hooter sounded.

That moved MacDonald to six-under-par, two shots off the lead held by Spaniard Nuria Iturrioz, in the weather-hit season-ending LET event.

“I hit a 7-iron to leave my favourite number and hit my 50 degree wedge,” said MacDonald, who, after opening with a 68, had mixed two birdies with two bogeys in her first six holes after a late start due to Thursday’s rain suspension.

“It was playing long and cold out there this afternoon, so it was great to get that shot in before sleeping tonight. I’m looking forward to tomorrow already.”
