Along with compatriot  Gemma Dryburgh, the 25-year-old from Nairn is comfortably on course to secure a full card for next year’s circuit after staying in the top ten with a circuit to go in Marrakech.

“To be honest, I’m a little frustrated as I know I’ve got a low one in me,” said MacDonald after signing for a 71 at Samanah Country Club for an 11-under-par 277 total, slipping one place from her overnight position to sixth.

“I’m hitting it in very close, just not holing enough putts. But I’m very confident going into tomorrow’s final round when I will be looking to climb the leaderboard to see me into a good position for next  season.”

Finishing in the top 30 and ties will be good enough to secure a card, but the Scot  added: “The higher I am the better. Due to the Olympics next year, the fields will be strong, so it is going to be tough to get into the events at the start of the season.”

Based on her efforts so far, Dryburgh looks as though she will be a good addition to the Scottish ranks on the LET Tour next season. After all, it takes a bit of courage to come up with a positive response when things are slipping away from you, as they were after she’d gone out in three-over.

Four birdies in a row from the 11th at Amelkis Golf Club were just what the doctor ordered and, after also carding a 71, the Aberdonian is sitting joint-ninth on eight-under.

As Germany’s Karolin Lampert stayed on course for a wire-to-wire win, having moved to 22-under with a 68, the three other Scots – Michele Thomson, Alyson McKechin and Jane Turner – all missed the 72-hole cut.
