The 1995 Claret Jug winner is the first name to be confirmed for the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play at Murcar Links following the entries closing last Thursday.

“I am really excited to be playing Paul’s inaugural European Tour event,” said the American. “I love match play and it is a format of the game that we do not get to play enough of on tour.

“I really appreciate Paul for having me in his tournament. I am looking forward to a week in Aberdeen and hopefully playing really well in front of all the fans.”

Lawrie, who played against Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke yesterday in a charity match at his Golf Centre on the outskirts of Aberdeen, is delighted to have Daly, one of the game’s most colourful characters, in the field for his new £750,000 tournament.

“I look forward to welcoming him at Murcar Links,” said the 1999 Claret Jug winner, who will also be in the 64-strong line-up. “His grip-it-and-rip approach to golf and life has enthralled fans from around the globe for many years.

“I don’t think many of the players will fancy going up against him. His attacking style will give him plenty of birdie opportunities and he will definitely be one to watch.”
