Jimmy Gunn fires his way back in Colorado

JIMMY Gunn has bounced back from the disappointment of failing to secure an invitation for his national championship by winning the Colorado Open.

The 35-year-old secured a £15,000 pay-day for his one-shot triumph at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club, where he shot four rounds in the 60s for a 19-under-par total.

“This is probably the biggest win of my career,” said Arizona-based Gunn, who made the journey home in the hope he might secure a spot in the Scottish Open earlier this month but failed to get into the field at Gullane. “Playing under pressure and being able to win gives you great confidence.”

Gunn has now finished first and second in mini-Tour events in America since he tied for 27th in the US Open at Chambers Bay last month.

“Playing in the US Open and playing great on the weekend gives you the belief you belong anywhere,” added the Dornoch man, who made two eagles on the back nine in his final round as he pipped American Zahkai Brown, a former Colorado Open winner.

Gunn is hoping the success can provide a springboard to regain his Web.com Tour card after losing that for this season.
