Carnoustie’s Katy McNicoll won the £1,000 top prize in the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre Scottish Ladies Open Tour event, the Saltire Energy Classic 1, at Trump International Links yesterday.
Despite losing two balls in the thick rough over the first two holes, McNicoll went on to shoot a great score of two-over-par 74.
She won by two shots from the Carnoustie teenage amateur, Jess Meek, who is building up a phenomenal record in the new tour which is open to lady pros and single-figure handicap amateurs.
Joint second in the first two events at Dalmahoy and Ratho Park, Meek finished second on her own at the third attempt with a 76.
Meanwhile, Mary-Lou Wadkins justified her No 1 seeding in the East Lothian women’s county golf championship at Luffness New Golf Club by winning her way through to the last four.
Wadkins won by 3 and 2 over Barbar McIntosh and by two holes over another Gullane player, 14-year-old SLGA AcadWadkins will meet Jane Herd who won against Dawn Young and Pam Hall, while Gullane’s Sue Penman will meet former champion Clara Young of North Berwick this morning in the other semi-final.
