Golf: Elementary for Alastair

ALASTAIR MACDONALD, father-in-law of Marc Warren, produced an effort the European Tour player would have been proud off to seal a title triumph for Craigmillar Park.

Playing on his home course in the rescheduled South East Edinburgh Winter League
Individual Championship, he overcame horrible conditions to card a fine 71.

It saw him finish four shots ahead of his nearest challengers – Liberton’s Stevie Doyle and Prestonfield pair Mike Crombie and Lewis Blyth all signed
for 75s – and also helped Craigmillar Park claim the team title.

With the best four scores counting, the hosts had an
aggregate of 20-over, winning by two shots from Prestonfield, with Liberton six shots further back and Duddingston
bringing up the rear.

The junior event was won by Duddingston’s Lee Greenhalgh.

He almost had to play
without his driver as he
attempted to change the loft just before going on to the tee and was unable to put the club back together.

However, a quick sprint to
local pro Scott Gourlay enabled
a fix to be sourced and he went on to shoot a creditable 80
playing off eight.

The host club’s Andrew
Sommerville won the junior handicap event with a net 70.
