The Evian Championship in France, which had been due to start a three-week European Swing for the LPGA this summer, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.

The loss of the women's major leaves the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club and the AIG Women's British Open at Royal Troon on the US circuit's schedule in August on this side of the Atlantic.

It is believed that an update on the two Scottish events will be delivered in the next few weeks, with the AIG Women's British Open now under the umbrella of the R&A.

The cancellation of the Evian Championship, which had been due to be held on 6-9 August, was confirmed in a statement from the organisers of the $4.1 million tournament.

"We have waited for as long as organisational issues allow to make this decision with (LPGA commissioner) Mike Whan and the LPGA,” said Evian Championship chairman Franck Riboud. “But, unfortunately, it was unavoidable in view of the situation with regards to US travel to Continental Europe.

"Our top priority is, of course, to ensure everyone stays healthy and safe. All of our teams are very affected by the forced cancellation of our major, but we must not lose sight of what matters most.”

The UL International Crown, a team event due to be held at The Centurion Club in Hertfordshire in the last week of August, had already been cancelled, with its slot being taken by a rescheduled event in Arkansas.

The first event on the LPGA schedule since it went into lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic is due to be the Marathon Classic in Ohio on 23-26 July.

The ANA Inspiration in California, normally the first women's major of the year, has been moved to 10-13 September, with the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the US Women's Open now in October and December slots respectively in Pennsylvania and Texas.
