Pride of place in that tartan contingent went to Inchmarlo’s Paul Cormack, who secured a share of second spot at Slaley Hall with a 36-hole total of 146 (74, 72).
Others to progress comfortably by finishing in the top 10 at the Northumberland venue were Jordan McColl (Scotscraig) and Ross Kellett (Aberdeen Asset Management) as well as Mark Hillson, the former Craigielaw man who is now based at Tandridge in Surrey.
Also qualifying with a bit to spare were Kris Nicol (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) and Graeme Brown (Montrose Golf Links) in joint-tenth but teenager Lawrie made it through right on the mark – 148 – after a brace of 78s.
It was mission accomplished, nonetheless, for the rookie pro, as was the case for Ranfurly Castle’s Binning and Aberdour’s Crichton on 157 and 158 respectively.
Also heading to Frilford Heath for next week’s 54-hole final are John Henry, Scott Herald, Graham Rankin, Neil Henderson, Conor O’Neil, Eric Ramsay, James Hendrick and Fraser McKenna.
Joining them at the Surrey venue will be four Scottish qualifiers from Formby Hall – Ross Bell, Graham Forbes, Paul Robinson and Andrew Borg – as well as three from the Players Club, including Mark Rae.
