Coronavirus: Scottish golf club tells members not to panic over course closures

Golf club members in Scotland have been urged not to "panic" and cancel memberships over the current shutdown because of the coronavirus.

Lochwinnoch Golf Club in Renfrewshire is urging members to stay loyal during the current course closure throughout Scotland due to the coronavirus

The plea was made by Lochwinnoch Golf Club in a post to its members after courses in Scotland closed en masse for the first time since the Second World War.

"This is temporary, no need panic or to cancel direct debits or membership because the course will be available after this ends and we need it playable/or you would want it playable," said the message from the Renfrewshire club.

"Think of it as three to six weeks of snow on the course and it's unplayable. With everyone's goodwill and support, we will enjoy our golf this summer."

Courses all over Scotland closed earlier in the week after Prime Minister Boris Johnson's plea to the nation to "stay at home" during the pandemic.

In its social media post, Lochwinnoch said it would follow the guidelines from Scottish Golf asking people to "refrain from playing" for the next "three-six weeks" depending on ongoing government advice.
