"We hope other events through this season can go ahead as planned, and I hope all of our competitors and their families stay safe and well."

Meanwhile, Gullane, one of the busiest clubs in Scotland, is set to close both its clubhouses - one for members and the other for visitors.

Members have been informed that the food and beverage departments at the club will close at 5pm today.

They will then have until 5pm to collect clubs etc from lockers before both clubhouses are then closed until further notice.

Gullane, which has hosted the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open twice in recent years, has approximately 1650 members.

The step follows similar action having been taken at Muirfield, Bruntsfield Links, Mortonhall and Ratho Park over the past few days.
