ClubGolf @ the Castle aims to attract 500

Professionals Kelsey MacDonald and Pamela Pretswell plus Scotland’s 2012 Amateur of the Year – Jack McDonald – joined pupils from Allan’s Primary School at Stirling Castle to help launch ClubGolf @ the Castle, part of this summer’s exciting ClubGolf Festival.

ClubGolf @ the Castle will take place in the week of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Castle Stuart (July 10-14), teeing off with The Big Chipping Challenge on Wednesday of tournament week. It will follow the second staging of ClubGolf Camps, at 82 clubs and facilities throughout Scotland from the start of July.

ClubGolf is looking for over 500 young people to be part of this fun and exciting event, which will raise the curtain on a wide programme of activities provided for budding golf fans during the tournament.

A similar event last year attracted a visit by Martin Laird and Colin Montgomerie and attracted youngsters from all over the north.

Kelsey, from Nairn, tied for 31st in the Turkish Airlines Open on Sunday and she admitted she was envious of the new generation. “ClubGolf @ the Castle looks set to be an amazing chance for kids to get involved in golf during one of European golf’s biggest events,” said the former Scottish ladies’ Champion. “I would have loved to have been able to do something like that so close to home when I was a junior.”

First Minister Alex Salmond visited the first staging of ClubGolf @ the Castle last year, said: and is again backing ClubGolf’s extensive summer programme. He said: “Having seen so many young people take part in ClubGolf @ the Castle last year, I am delighted that the event is returning to be part of the programme for this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

“ClubGolf is doing some fantastic work getting our young people involved in golf by giving them the opportunity to experience the game in a fun and exciting environment.’
