Clark breaks tournament record at Craigmillar Park

MATTHEW Clark, beaten by Gavin Dear in a play-off 12 months ago, went one better both in terms of scoring and position to win the Craigmillar Park Open with a new tournament record aggregate of 260, 20-under-par.

Six shots off the lead at the halfway stage, the 28-year-old from Kilmacolm, shot closing rounds of 62 and 64 to finish five shots clear of the field.

Clark is now 39-under-par for his last two visits to the course, having signed for scores of 69, 61, 67 and 64 when tying for top spot with Dear before losing to the player in a shoot-out for the title.

Greg Paterson led by a shot going into the final round, the Fifer having catapulted himself into pole position after a second-round 62.

Taking up where he'd left off in the morning, Clark stormed to the turn in 31, four-under-par, before picking up three more birdies coming home – at the 11th, 12th and 17th. A dropped shot at the 13th was his sole blemish but he wasn't to be denied.

Paterson, who closed with rounds of 67 and 70, finished second on 265, two ahead of the fast-finishing Ross Kellett.
