Bradley Neil faces tough test in Leven event

BRADLEY Neil’s bid to make his mark at men’s level on the domestic circuit this season faces a stringent test over the next two days at Leven Golfing Society.

It stages the Scottish Champion of Champions, an invitation event for the leading performers in 2013, and an intriguing 72 holes lie ahead.

Having decided to skip his Scottish Boys’ title defence at West Kilbride next week, Neil certainly won’t be lacking 
motivation.

The Blairgowrie teenager will also be the player to beat if he reproduces the form that saw him steer Scotland to victory in last month’s European Nations Cup at Sotogrande. His three team-mates there – Scott Borrowman (Dollar), Jack McDonald (Barassie) and Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie) – now become rivals this weekend.

Borrowman is the defending champion and McDonald heads for Fife fresh from lifting the Scottish Universities’ title, while Robertson is aiming to kickstart his career after a disappointing 2013.

Others capable of getting in the mix include Craigie Hill’s ever-improving Daniel Young, Scott Gibson from Southerness and Kilmacolm career amateur Matthew Clark.

There’s also a Tom Watson in the line-up, though this one is a South African who has been handed a special invitation due to the fact he’s now playing out of St Andrews.
