Golf: Silverknowes off to a flyer in League

SILVERKNOWES and Edinburgh Western both chalked up whitewash wins in the second round of matches in the Edinburgh Municipal Clubs’ Winter League.

It was a second 4-0 win of the campaign for Silverknowes as they made the most of home advantage against Portobello.

Silverknowes, led by Edward Trophy winner Graham Robertson, sent out a strong side and they had too much firepower on the day for their opponents in the Group B clash.

Carrickvale also have full points in the same section after winning 3-1 at home against Braids United. The Vale side included all four members of their treble-winning Dispatch Trophy team and it’s going to be a tasty battle between them and Silverknowes for top spot.

In their opening game in Group A, Edinburgh Western beat Lochend at the Braids, where the match was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests.

All four matches went beyond the 16th, with two Western pairings – Danny Cameron and Brian Reid at the top of the order and Sandy McFeat and Rankin Taylor in the anchor game – both winning on the home green.
