Golf: Senior service reward for DJ

ARCHERFIELD Links pro DJ Russell, a runner up nine times on the European Senior Tour, has finally landed a title.

The Englishman shot a closing 75 to win The De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship at Slaley Hall by two shots from Paraguay's Angel Franco.

"The Senior Tour is a wonderful opportunity for us to stay competitive and this is right up there as it's a wonderful tournament," said Russell, who designed the two courses at Archerfield Links.

"It's the oldest Senior event and it's great to have my name on the trophy with so many fantastic players."

Andrew Oldcorn closed with a best-of-the day 68 to finish in a tie for sixth.
