Golf: Russell is ready to roll

Lothians golfer Raymond Russell will head for the European Tour's qualifying school final early next month in confident mood after continuing his fine run of late-season form in Turkey.

The Prestonpans man dominated a field including double Major winner John Daly and romped to victory in the PGA of Europe's Beko Classic at the Antalya resort.

Russell, 38, fired rounds of 69, 61 and 65 over the Sultan and Pasha courses for a 19-under 195 and a four-shot win over Carl Suneson and Jamie Little.

Russell earned the 19th of 20 European Tour promotion places at the Challenge Tour's Grand Final a fortnight ago but will head to the qualifying school final in Spain to bolster his category for next season.

And after highlighting his weekend in Turkey with a dazzling 11-under 61 in round two, the former Cannes Open champ, who also clinched the Allianz Tour's order of merit title just over a week ago, will travel to the gruelling six-round marathon in good spirits.
