Golf: Proud Poulter beats bogey

It is 15 years since anybody went through an entire European Tour event without making a bogey - Jesper Parnevik at the 1995 Scandinavian Masters.

Now, for the second tournament running, Ian Poulter has gone into a weekend with the chance to emulate Parnevik.

Last week at the Hong Kong Open he was bogey-free for 56 holes before hitting a "terrible" four-iron on the third hole of his last round.

"That probably got it over and done with because I was thinking about it," said Poulter. "You can just go and play golf again."

It did not cost him the title and while he will be trying to keep one off his card as long as possible again at the Dubai World Championship, he will not mind messing up if he still ends up with the first prize of nearly 777,000 tomorrow.

After rounds of 69 and 66 Poulter was nine under par overnight and sharing top spot with Ryder Cup team-mate Ross Fisher.
