Golf: Masters coup for Renaissance

THE Renaissance Club in East Lothian is to stage one of the top junior events on the Scottish calendar for the first time, writes MARTIN DEMPSTER.

The Scottish Junior Masters, held over the Queens Course at Gleneagles over the past few years, is moving to The Renaissance Club this season.

It will be held on Sunday, 3 October – the last day of the Ryder Cup – and will feature young players from all over Scotland.

Craigielaw's Gabrielle MacDonald won the girls' title at Gleneagles last year while the event has also featured the likes of Carly Booth over the years.

It will be the second top junior event that The Renaissance Club has played host to. Last year the Tom Doak-designed course was the venue for the Scottish final in the Faldo Series.

Dunfermline Building Society had been the sponsors of the Scottish Junior Masters but, with their deal having ended, the Scottish Golf Union is currently in the process of trying to fix up a new backer for the event.
