Golf: Lothians Seniors in title tilt

A NUMBER of Lothians players are heading along the M8 tomorrow to take part in this week's Scottish Seniors Championship at Pollok.

They include Scottish Seniors' internationalist John Fraser and his Royal Burgess clubmate Ian Taylor, who has also been a part of the team that has done so well for the Barnton club in the Edinburgh Summer League lately.

Bruntsfield Links also have two players in the field – Robert MacDonald and John Lang – while Murrayfield's Derek Miller, Gerry Boobis, of Ravelston, and Alastair Taylor, from Turnhouse, are also part of the Capital challenge.

In addition, two other well-known Lothians golfers are playing in the 54-hole event – Kilspindie's Bob Humble and Wilson Morton of Dunbar.

Englishman David Lane lifted the title at Panmure last year and once again the home players will face some stiff competition from across the Border.

The top 40 after the opening two rounds tomorrow and Thursday will qualify for the final 18 holes on Friday.
