Golf: Liberton bag haul of silver

LIBERTON rounded off a successful South East Edinburgh Winter League campaign by winning three out of four trophies up for grabs in the season-ending finale.

The Mount Vernon club already had the two main titles in the bag and also dominated the individual and team championships at Prestonfield. They won the team prize with a 37-over-par total, beating the host club into second place by ten shots. Two Liberton players also had the two best individual scratch scores, with Scotland junior cap Anthony Blaney pipping clubmate Clark Munro by virtue of a better inward half as they both posted 75s. Prestonfield’s Mike Crombie finished a stroke behind the leading pair, with another host club man, Richard Myles, Duddingston’s Paul Heggie and Scott Dickson of Liberton all posting 78s.
