Golf: Laird falls back in Hawaii test

OVERNIGHT leader Lucas Glover was still in front in the second round of the season-opening SBS Championship in Hawaii as defending champion Geoff Ogilvy made his move and Scotland's Martin Laird fell off the pace.

US Open champion Glover had held a one-stroke lead over the 28-man field of 2009 PGA Tour tournament winners after an opening-round, seven-under-par 66 at the Kapalua Resort Plantation Course on Maui.

Glover was five under for the day, 12 under for the tournament and two shots better over Australian Ogilvy.

Glaswegian Laird, Australian Nathan Green and American trio Matt Kuchar, Dustin Johnson and Nick Watney had been in a tie for second after the first round but none of the five could keep pace with Glover.

Laird, playing with Glover in the final pairing, was in a large group on eight under, two under for the day.
