Golf: Johnston nets Alliance win

The last man out landed the spoils in the re-arranged Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance event at The Roxburghe.

Glenbervie amateur Richard Johnston, a regular in Lothians events, signed for a net 68 playing off one to land the Bootland Trophy.

It was a close call, though, as he only beat Prestonfield's William Laing by virtue of a better inward half.

Johnston's scratch score was also the joint best of the day, equalling that of Broomieknowe pro Stephen Lamb.

Lamb's brother, Glencorse member Justin, secured the second handicap prize with a net 69.

Dunbar duo Terry Mathieson and Neil Fenwick were third and fourth in the scratch section with 71 and 72 respectively, followed by Bathgate's Stuart Callan and Scott Grieve of Turnhouse on 73.

Senior spoils on the day went to David McKean of Cardrona with a net 75 and the trainee professional prize was won by Daniel Wood of Eyemouth for the second outing in a row with a score of 75.

The next outing is on Wednesday at Lothianburn.
