Golf: James Byrne gets the nod for Palmer Cup match

JAMES Byrne will fly the Scottish flag in Dean Robertson's European team for June's Palmer Cup match against the United States at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

The Banchory youngster, a student at Arizona State University and a member of GB&I's Walker Cup elite training squad, has been named in an eight-man side of leading college golfers for the Ryder Cup-style joust.

Meanwhile, Krystle Caithness has signed up with Scottish management company 110sport. The former Curtis Cup player from St Andrews joins a sporting stable that includes fellow golf pros Alastair Forsyth and Marc Warren as well as Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy.
