Golf: Culverwell’s day to forget

ZANDER CULVERWELL, the only Lothians player to survive the cut in the Scottish Stroke-Play, had a final day to forget at Barassie. But the Dunbar player is confident he can bounce back in time for another big event on the Ayrshire coast.

Six shots off the lead at the halfway stage, Culverwell closed with rounds of 77 and 80 to finish well down the field behind French winner Paul Barjon.

“I did not play well at all,” admitted the former Lothians champion. “I struggled off the tee and was hacking it out of the munchies most of the time.”

Culverwell is in the field for next week’s Links Trophy at St Andrews. He’s also hoping to make the line-up for the Amateur Championship at Troon and Glasgow Gailes later this month.
