Golf: Border raiders Lamb and Flannery win at the Braids

PEEBLES golfers Jordan Lamb and Daniel Flannery claimed a superb scratch success in the Edinburgh and East of Scotland Alliance invitational greensomes at The Braids.

Playing on a composite course made up of 14 holes on No. 1 along with four from the Princes Course, they posted a 66 that included a trio of 2s. It secured a six-shot success from three pro/amateur combinations of George Wither (Lothianburn)/John Gallagher (Swanston New), Andy Marshall (Houston Driving Range)/Stuart Mason (Cawder), and Duddingston duo Alastair MacLean and Keith Millar.

The handicap prize, the Richardson & Brownlee Trophy, was claimed by Dalmahoy’s Robert Cunningham and Darren Love of Archerfield Links. Playing off 11.4, they carded a nett 62.6, beating two Braids stalwarts, Mike Robson and Graeme Millar, with their 66.6 off 1.4.

Third spot went to Prestonfield pair Willie Laing and Joe Ridell with a nett 67 off seven.

“Thanks go to Derek McLeod and his greens staff to allow the 48 players to enjoy this competition,” said East Alliance secretary Alan Greenshields.

The Alliance campaign resumes after the Festive break at Gullane No 3 on January 11.
