Golf: Ace Ronnie's in fine medal

RONNIE ACKROYD of Harrison got his season off to a fine start at the Braids with his first-ever hole-in-one in a medal.

It came with a 5-iron at the 17th and continued a great spell for the 66-year-old after his victory in last season's club championship.

Ackroyd not only bought everyone a drink in the clubhouse afterwards but, in his role as bar convener, he also served them up.

Mike Robson won the event, for the Cox Medal, with a net 66.
